How can I set up custom nameservers?

With our reseller (and shared!) accounts, we include the ability to create your own customized private nameservers, to have complete anonymity with your clients. This gives you the ability to display your nameservers as "ns1.yourdomain.com" and "ns2.yourdomain.com" or any other format that you desire.

You do not need to purchase anything extra to receive this option. To set this up you will need to contact our support desk to obtain the nameserver IP addresses from us, that your registrar will require when setting up the nameservers.

Each registrar has a different process/section to set this up, but we will include directions for setting up nameservers with GoDaddy and Namecheap--the two most popular registrars that our reseller clients use.

 GoDaddy

  1.  Log into your account, then navigate to the domain name you want to set up private nameservers with.
  2.  Once you are viewing the domain's main admin page, you will need to scroll through the bottom frame to locate the "Host Summary" portion, and then you will click on "View/Modify Detail."
  3.  Upon clicking on this screen, you will then be led to a page which contains blank text fields where you are able to enter up to 6 host names on the first page.
  4. You will see a text field with your domain name after it. With this first field you will enter in your desired hostname, for our example we will use reesesns1. After entering in reesesns1 you will then tab over to the textfields that require the nameserver IP address. Enter in the IP that correlates to those that support will provide for you.
  5. Since your domain will only have two nameservers, you will only need to create two hostnames. Once complete, click "ok."

 Namecheap

  1. Log into your namecheap account and click on "manage domains." Then click on the domain name that you would like to create custom private nameservers for.
  2.  On the left sidebar, click on the link "Nameserver Registration."
  3. In the drop down menu before your domain name, you can chose to use the preconfigured hostnames, or utilize the blank textfield to create your own nameserver. In the IP textfield you will then enter in the corresponding nameserver IP addresses that support will provide for you.
  4. Once you have completed creating the nameservers, click on "Add Nameservers."
